Jaime R. Angeles

Jaime R. Ángeles specializes in corporate law and Intellectual Property Law, especially for the IT/e-commerce, including unfair competition and a vast litigation experience in these fields. An important part of his professional work consists in drafting and negotiating contracts for IT companies, for example non disclosure and license agreements, and for example he was a key player in the negotiation to legalize the market of ringtones in the Dominican Republic. Also he has had the opportunity to advise the Dominican Government, including some of its agencies on the negotiation, implementation and enforcement of international trade agreements, especially TRIPS and DR-CAFTA. In 1997-1998 he was part of the official commission named by a Presidential Decree that drafted the bill of an “Order Market Code” that includes new rules on: Antitrust, Unfair Competition, Industrial Property, Intellectual Property and Consumer Protection. The corporate and contract law component of his work is important, connected with forming subsidiaries for foreign clients, drafting and negotiating distribution contracts. In court, Jaime Angeles handles cases involving disputed IP rights, unfair competition, antipiracy and distribution contracts. His clients include national and international companies with fashion (world famous) trademarks, worldwide leading Information Technologies and Entertainment companies, as well as start-ups and private clients in the fields of his experience. He spends more than half his time advising on international legal cases. Jaime Ángeles publishes specialist articles on IP and IT. Author of "Electronic Commerce: From the American perspective to an international view," UNESCO Editions, 2005; Jaime Angeles has written and presented essays and papers on intellectual property, TRIPS, commercial legislation and electronic commerce and has been panelists in several international conference, including organized by the International Technology Law Association, US Patent and Trademark Office, Dominican Association of Intellectual Property (former President and member of the board). He is an actual member of the Board of Directors of the International Technology Law Association – Itechlaw. He has lectured in seminars and trainings organized by the Dominican Supreme Court of Justice (1995-1997 and 2001).
