Alberto Batini

Alberto is an international maritime lawyer specialized in corporate transactions related to the maritime industry, large shipping insolvencies, yacht building contracts, shipping finance transactions, recognition of foreign judgement and awards as well as marine insurance matters. Alberto has an extensive knowledge of the shipping finance and insurance business having practiced in London for major shipping law firms and an IG P&I Club back in 1992, advising major shipping operators, large ship owners and international underwriters and stakeholders, international banks and leasing companies in shipping finance transactions. He regularly acts for major yacht builders in negotiating yacht building contracts in the mega and giga yacht range.

Alberto qualified in Italy in 1993 and was later admitted to advocate to the Italian Supreme Court. Alberto regularly instructs foreign lawyers in international arbitration and litigation world wide as well as assist foreign law firms in Italian litigation disputes, Italian arbitration as well as transactional matters.

Alberto is a founding member of BTG Legal, an Italian law firm covering Italy with six offices (Milan, Rome, Livorno, Naples, Ravenna, Genoa) and operating internationally through its City of London office. He supervises the London and Milan office. The firm comprises of 35 lawyers spread among the various offices. Alberto has been until recently the Chairman of the Marine Special Interest Group at GILC. He is also the founding member of the International Yacht Lawyers Network (IYLN), covering all major yachting jurisdictions worldwide and comprising some of the most well-known yacht specialist lawyers and surveyors internationally.  Alberto has been recently involved, among others, in (i)  a large acquisition deal involving a major ship owning company (ii) a major merging operation involving American interests and a large logistic European group (iii) several yacht building contracts including a giga yacht and two 60 meters yachts (iv) a marine cyber case related to a major port disruption in Northern Europe.

The Firm BTG Legal also gained in the last decade a solid experience in the insurance run off and legacy business, assisting and advising international funds in acquisition of insurance portfolios with Italian exposure as well as in insurance cyber and marine cyber consultancy.

Alberto is the Dutch Honorary Consul for coastal Tuscany. He is also a regular panelist in international seminars and industry events internationally.
