Cameron Doley

Cameron Doley specialises in public international law issues, international arbitration work and litigation, dispute resolution and regulatory cases involving an international or diplomatic context. His clients include a large number of governments, heads of state and leading political figures from across the world as well as commercial entities and individuals requiring specialist advice on international issues.

In addition to many years conducting litigation in the High Court in London, Cameron has extensive experience of matters proceeding before the United Nations, the European Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights. Carter-Ruck’s International Law Group is additionally involved in cases that are progressing in the national courts of more than twenty countries located across the globe.

Cameron also leads Carter-Ruck’s international arbitration practice and is presently heading teams conducting Al Jazeera Media Network’s Bilateral Investment Treaty claim against Egypt before the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) as well as a number of transnational arbitration claims before the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) and elsewhere.

Cameron has enormous experience of dealing with the UK and international media and seeks to apply the reputation management expertise he has acquired to manage media interest in cases involving his clients. He also continues to bring claims for a number of his clients against the international media. Successes include the recovery of more than £500,000, together with the publication of a front page apology, upon the settlement of a claim brought by H.H. Sheikha Mouza Al Misnad (the wife of the then Emir of Qatar); the award of £165,000 – one of the largest UK libel awards of the past decade – to Sheikh Rashid Ghannouchi (the then leader in exile of the Tunisian opposition) against global satellite channel Al Arabiya; and the victory achieved by the then Prime Minister of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, against London’s Daily Telegraph newspaper.

Cameron graduated from The Queen’s College, Oxford, with First Class Honours in Modern History. Converting to law, he trained at Carter-Ruck under the firm’s founder Peter Carter-Ruck and became a partner in 1995. He is now Carter-Ruck’s Senior Partner, having been the firm’s Managing Partner for 11 years previously.

He is described in Chambers Guide to the Legal Profession as having “a consistently diplomatic approach that always gets the needed results” and as “a great lawyer to have fighting your corner”.

Cameron is a member of the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House), the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce, the American Society of International Law and the British Institute of International and Comparative Law.
