Carmen Varela

Carmen Varela has a law degree from Barcelona University and is a Business and Family Law Mediator. She has been a member of the Barcelona Bar Association since 1992. She has been part of Círculo Legal staff since it was founded. She is a member of the Procedural Law Commission, the Business Law Commission, the Mediation Commission and the Matrimonial Law Comission of the Barcelona Bar Association. From the outset of her career, Ms Varela has a wealth of experience in family law regarding both litigation and mediation in situations of marital crisis. By her knowledge of Private International Law, she is specialized on Spanish procedure of separations and divorces of mixed marriages, that is, those which the couple is of different nationalities. She is a member of the Spanish Association of Family Lawyers (AEAFA), of the Catalan Society of Family Lawyers (SCAF) and she directs the departments of family law of Circulo Legal Barcelona. Ms. Varela has published legal articles in specialised magazines (Lex Family, Lex Nova, Legal today), financial press such as "Expansión" and specialised journals such as "Revista de Derecho De Familia (Journal of family Law). She is a regular speaker at different talks, conferences and roundtables about the matrimonial procedure and she has taught on different training programmes for tax advisors, legal professionals and has given talks in the Business School Esade on matrimonial procedure.
