Olivier Coekelbergs

Olivier Coekelbergs leads EY’s Private Equity Practice for audit, advisory, tax and transaction services in Luxembourg.

With more than 13 years experience in servicing major private equity houses and small and mid-sized general partners around the globe, Olivier has gained an in-depth knowledge of the private equity and venture capital industry. Olivier is a recognised expert in the valuation of illiquid assets and in the application of the International Private Equity and Venture Capital Valuation Guidelines.

Over the past few years, Olivier has led audit assignments for a large number of private equity and venture capital funds investing in a wide range of underlying assets and following different strategies. Olivier has led major advisory engagements for general partners and fund administrators to assist them in the implementation of valuation methodologies, risk control procedures and reporting frameworks, as well as IFRS and US GAAP conversions. Moreover, Olivier has advised multinational and local fund administrators and depositaries in the set-up of their private equity desks. Olivier has also led several due diligences for large and mid-sized general partners in the context of international acquisitions. 

Olivier further provides expertise on the set-up and structuring of direct private equity and venture capital vehicles in Luxembourg, such as SICARs, SIFs and SOPARFIs. Currently Olivier advises numerous general partners and service providers on the implementation of the requirements as set out by the Alternative Investment Fund Managers (AIFM) Directive. 

Olivier holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business having majored in auditing and accountancy from the Facultés Universitaires Catholiques de Mons (Belgium). He is certified “Réviseur d’entreprises” - Luxembourg chartered accountant - and is a member of the Private Equity, Venture Capital and SICAR Committee of the Association of the Luxembourg Fund Industry (ALFI). He is equally a member of the Accounting and Valuation group of the Luxembourg Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (LPEA) and acts as instructor on private equity valuations at the European Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (EVCA) Institute in Brussels. Olivier was recently appointed member of the working group on valuation and reporting at the EVCA.

Olivier is fluent in English and French and has basic knowledge of Italian and Dutch.
