George Hwang LL.C’s founder, George Hwang, started doing entertainment and media work when working in Hong Kong in the 1990s. They were mainly film related until he became the general manager of Warner Music Publishing (HK) Ltd.
As a practitioner, Mr Hwang has advised on various music industry agreements in Hong Kong and in Singapore.
Mr Hwang worked as in-house counsel for a media company between 1996 and 1997. He had to create many new templates for internet products of that company.
Mr Hwang has worked in many countries, including Hong Kong, the European Commission, Bulgaria and the Bahamas. He is also able to communicate in English, French and Mandarin.

In litigation, George Hwang LL.C advised Roy Ngerng, a blogger, when he was sued by Singapore’s Prime Minister for defamation, last year. In 2013, the firm appeared in Singapore’s apex court and won for its client, a journalist, the right to keep his sources secret, in the landmark case of James Dorsey v World Sports Group [2014] 2 SLR 208.
Mr Hwang stated that the firm plans to expand in 2017, as the economic outlook for 2016 for Singapore is poor. The firm intends to use 2016 to consolidate and strengthen its administration and business processes.
Mr Hwang also wants to devote his time to writing the volume on media law for the Halsbury’s of Singapore, which LexisNexis has commissioned him to write.
