Carlos Hernández-Aguiar
Carlos Hernández-Aguiar, Founding Partner, brings more than three decades’ legal experience, having previously co-founded Facio Abogados and Pragma Legal. One of the main strengths of Mr Hernández-Aguiar’s professional practice is its client support, which combines not only legal expertise but also guidance on business matters. Therefore, all clients benefit from comprehensive legal and business advisory services – both during the establishment of their ventures and throughout their ongoing operations.
Mr Hernández-Aguiar’s practice focuses on advising transnational companies on establishing and operating in Costa Rica, with expertise in corporate and commercial law, M&A, foreign investment and real estate development. He has dealt with cases concerning shoreline zone development and condominiums, as well as hospitality and leisure schemes. Moreover, he counsels prominent companies in the hospitality industry on corporate and labour matters. Mr Hernández-Aguiar is also an entrepreneur, serving as co-founder and board member of financial sector companies and real estate projects across Costa Rica.
Among his outstanding portfolio of clients are hotels (such as Four Seasons Península Papagayo, Andaz Península Papagayo Resort, Planet Hollywood Costa Rica, El Mangroove Autograph Collection, Waldorf Astoria Costa Rica, W Costa Rica Reserva Conchal, The Westin Reserva Conchal, JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort & Spa, as well as Hyatt Dreams Las Mareas), real estate projects (such as Cityzen, Become Nosara and Ventanas de Playa Grande), as well as construction companies (such as EDICA). He is also the Co-Founder of IMPESA, one of the most important FinTech companies in the region. It is worth highlighting that all the above are characterised by long-standing and stable client relationships.
