Julie Man has been practising private client law for 16 years. The detailed knowledge and experience acquired during this period has established her as solid legal adviser in the private client arena. Ms Man’s work focuses on dealing with high net-worth individuals; particularly clients with business interests, domicile issues, etc.

She has written extensively on these issues for Essence Magazine, Mature Times, Retirement Planner, Parental Choice, American in Britain, and The Expatriate’s Guide to Living in the UK and spoken at Fabulous Women events, local care homes, accountancy seminars and workshops.

Ms Man noted: “The wide range of experience and knowledge I have built up during my career allows me to advise a broad spectrum of clients from established, long-standing clients wishing to pass wealth down to the next generation but needing advice meeting challenges brought
by the ever-changing ‘modern family’ and changes in legislation (e.g. Brussels IV, proposed Residence Nil Rate Band etc.), to successful high net-worth entrepreneurial clients with the necessary technical rigour, adding a further dimension of interest to my work.”

Moreover, Ms Man has a broad case load of private wealth work, including high net-worth tax-planning wills, lifetime capital tax-planning with noted expertise in Business Property Relief, the creation of private and charitable trusts, administration of trusts, administration of estates, deeds of variation, deeds of gift, and elderly client advice including planning for care home fees.

Mundays LLP is a long-established law firm who are proud to have built a strong and vibrant client base, and national reputation. The office in Surrey is well located for national and international clients.

The growth in business for corporates and high net-worth individuals has led to the successful opening of a central London office in the summer of 2015.

Ms Man commented: “It is important that every client walking through the door should be treated with the same level of respect and service, whether they are vulnerable, or unused to managing legal or financial matters to the high net-worth and commercially astute.”

She added that many clients have assets abroad, which may require a separate will to be prepared in the relevant jurisdiction and a consideration of the effect of the Brussels IV regulation on assets based in the EU.

Ms Man concluded: “One matter I have dealt with in the last 12 months involved a client who had substantial business interests (e.g. million+). I acted in preparing wills for a married couple focusing on efficient tax-planning by transferring family wealth in a structured, protective and effective manner to the next generation. This involved incorporating protective Immediate Post-Death Interest trusts, maximising Business Property Relief (BPR) for Inheritance Tax purposes, including BPR tax planning in the wills and passing 10% of the estate to charity to attract the reduced rate of Inheritance Tax by drafting clauses compliant with HMRC requirements.

“Advising on lifetime planning, such as using the ‘normal expenditure out of income’ exemption, is an important tool for high net-worth individuals with income surplus to  their requirements.”
