Dr Mohan Dewan

Dr Mohan Dewan has the unique distinction of being both, a well‐known litigator and strategist in the IP field and at the same time having the technical skills of patent drafting, prosecution and expertise in trademark prosecution. Having drafted and successfully prosecuted several hundred patent specifications, he has come to be acknowledged as a specialist in patent specification drafting.

He is an Advocate and a registered Patent and Trademark agent, a Physicist with a Masters in Law from the Mumbai University and an LLD on the Laws relating to transfer of technology. He also has qualifications in Electric & Electronic Engineering & Programming. He was in charge of the IP law department of the University of Natal in South Africa where he also taught private international law.

He has been in the field of IPR for over 40 years. Dr. Dewan has obtained over several thousand patents for various Indian and Foreign clients.

Dr Dewan is the Principal of R K Dewan & Co, a firm which was founded 5 years before the independence of India; in the year 1942. The firm has completed over 70 years of committed and excellent service in the field of IPR and currently represents over 4000 corporate and individual clients worldwide, comprising associate’s the world over, corporate clients, academic institutions, scientific and research organizations and individuals. The firm is actively involved in advising clients on every aspect of IPR, including patents, trademarks, copyrights and designs. The firm regularly handles IPR prosecution and litigation, Trademark and Design contentious and non‐contentious matters as well as Patent contentious and noncontentious matters on behalf of its many clients. RKD is also involved in post‐registration work in relation to IPR which includes maintenance, valuation and continuous education of clients’ personnel as well.

Dr Dewan has several publications to his credit and is actively involved in seminars and workshops on Intellectual Property Rights for training students, executives, IP professionals and patent office examiners. Dr. Dewan has co‐authored a book titled “Intellectual Property, Innovation and Management in Emerging Economies” which was launched at the Warsaw University, Poland.

He has also completed various courses in alternative medicine and Naturopathy. Dr. Dewan is currently registered for his Ph.D., at the University of Pune in the department of Law and the Department of Health Sciences.
