Afoke Igwe

Afoke is a Senior Associate in the firm’s Corporate and Commercial Practice. She specialises in regulatory compliance, foreign investment and taxation, banking and finance, telecommunications law, commercial and property transactions, general corporate practice with an emphasis on mergers and acquisitions and corporate restructuring and due diligence. In addition to this, she is primarily responsible for the firm’s business establishment and immigration practice which is an offshoot of the firm’s foreign investment practice.

As a specialist in Nigerian immigration law, Afoke has extensive experience in advising on the various permits and licences required by foreign investors in order to participate in the Nigerian market. She also has on several occasions assisted the firm’s clients in connection with applications for business permits, expatriate quotas, Nigerian visas, residence permits and alien cards. She has a good working relationship with the relevant regulators which enables her to provide advice which reflects the practical aspects of Nigerian immigration law.

Mrs Igwe attended the University of Benin, Nigeria where she obtained Bachelor’s degree in law in 1999. Thereafter, she attended University of Wales, Cardiff where she obtained a Master’s degree in law in 2002. She was admitted to the Nigerian Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2003. She is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association.

She has written and published articles on foreign investment in the World Bank's Annual Doing Business Report, and telecommunications laws and practice in the International Law Office Telecommunications Newsletter and the Getting the Deal Through, Telecoms and Media Publication - an international comparative guide to law and regulation in over 100 countries published by Global Competition Review.
