At the core of Sustain Value's offering is the firm’s Impact Valuation Advisory service, led by James Spurgeon. With more than 30 years’ experience, James has conducted hundreds of environmental and social valuation studies across various sectors worldwide. His expertise includes developing decision-support tools and frameworks that help organisations integrate sustainability into their core operations.
Notably, James was a lead author of the Natural Capital Protocol and the Integrated Capitals Assessment Principles, also contributing to the Natural Capital Protocol Finance Supplement. He has further authored numerous business guides on natural and social capital accounting, as well as ecosystem and water valuation.
Sustain Value has accumulated an extensive portfolio of clients, including multinational corporations, financial institutions, governments and NGOs. The client list features such prominent names as Shell, Coca-Cola, WPP, HSBC and the World Bank. Moreover, the firm has undertaken approximately 150 assignments across five continents – covering such sectors as finance, renewables, oil and gas, mining, tourism, infrastructure, pharma, food and technology. Projects have ranged from developing natural capital accounts for national governments to conducting TNFD pilot studies for major corporations.
Sustain Value is further recognised for its thought leadership in the sustainability field, having co-organised the Net Impact Approaches conference from 2017–2022 to focus on impact measurement, valuation and target setting for net zero, nature-positive, as well as social equity impacts.
