André Tavares

André Tavares was elected for five consecutive years (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018) the most admired lawyer in the area of insurance, civil, financial operations and health insurance, by ADVOCACIA ANALYSIS 500. He has been listed since 2015 in Band 3 of the CHAMBERS AND PARTNERS ranking and mentioned, since 2013, in the LEGAL 500.

André Tavares currently serves as a president of the National Working Group of Guarantee Insurance of the INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF INSURANCE LAW – AIDA, as a member of the Deliberative Council of the INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF INSURANCE LAW – AIDA, as a secretary-general of the Insurance and Reinsurance Law Commission of the OAB-RJ Section, as an editorial counsel of the Electronic Magazine of the INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF INSURANCE LAW – AIDA, and as an editorial adviser of Revista de Seguros.

He is also a professor of insurance law at the FUNENSEG Securities Law MBA and lecturer at seminars and congresses in the area of Insurance and Reinsurance Law.

In 2017, he decided to found his own law firm (Tavares Advogados – Tavares Law Firm) being the majority partner and administrator.

Before Tavares Law Firm, André Tavares was an intern at the Sérgio Bermudes Law Firm from 1997 to 2000. He was a partner at the Sérgio Bermudes Law Firm from 2003 to 2017, having worked for all these years in the insurance industry. He was also an associate of the staff of MACHADO, MEYER, SENDACZ, OPICE AND BRANDÃO COUTO ADVOGADOS between 2000 and 2003.

Throughout these years, André Tavares published a several articles in specialized journals, such as “CDC: evolution of the insurance market” (FUNENSEG Insurance Booklet, No. 171, Mar / Apr 2012, pp. 114-122); “Insurance Contract” (FUNENSEG Insurance Booklet, No. 173, Jul / Aug / Sep 2012, pp. 50-65); “Opening of the Brazilian reinsurance market” (FUNENSEG Insurance Booklet, No. 180, special edition 2013, pp. 60-65); and “Extinguishing Temporal Landmarks in Brazilian Insurance Law” (Revista Jurídica de Seguros / CNSeg, No. 4, May 2016, pp. 39-55).
