Professor Bill Ribbans

Professor Bill Ribbans qualified as a doctor from the Royal Free Hospital, London in 1980. His post-graduate training was principally in London with specialist fellowships in Sheffield and Harvard University.

In 1991, he was appointed as an Orthopaedic Consultant Surgeon in 1991 to the Royal Free Hospital in London. In 1996, he returned to his home town to commence work at Northampton General Hospital. In 2012, he entered into full-time Private Practice. His specialist areas are the knee, foot and ankle, and sports injuries.

In 2005, he was appointed Visiting Professor in Surgical Sciences to the University of Northampton and to a full personal Chair in Sports Medicine in 2010.

Professor Ribbans is Medical Director of the Chris Moody Rehabilitation Centre at Moulton College since its inception in 2011. He travels extensively at home and abroad to lecture and has a wide-ranging research programme in both clinical and basic science spheres.

Professor Ribbans is involved with a number of local and national sporting organizations and acts as Chief Medical Officer to Northamptonshire County Cricket Club and Honorary Orthopaedic Surgeon to the English National Ballet and to Northampton Town FC.

Professor Ribbans has undertaken medico-legal work since 1985. He has experience of both Personal Injury assessment and Clinical Negligence.

Professor Ribbans has worked with both Plaintiffs and Defendants and attended conferences in Chambers and given Expert Evidence in Court both in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.

From 2003-2006, Professor Ribbans was a member of the British Orthopaedic Association’s Professional Practices Committee and from 2008-2014 the Medico-Legal Committee.
