Tony Conaghan

Tony has more than 36 years experience. He is one of Australia's most highly regarded lawyers in his areas of expertise of intellectual property and technology (IPT) in both commercial & contentious and leads the largest specialist IPT legal practice in Queensland.

He has extensive international experience with the commercialisation of cross border IP, and counseling clients on international and national IPT disputes. In particular, he has significant parallel IPT & patent litigation experience with the USA, Europe and Asia. 

Tony has been involved in many seminal deals and cases. His experience includes cases involving expert evidence and cross jurisdiction co-ordination with an emphasis on technical and parallel issues. Tony has conducted many successful cases through to the High Court. He is an experienced mediator and has been involved in more than 100 mediations. 

His work and client base has included multi-national corporations, the Australian and State governments, various Government owned corporations, copyright collecting societies, manufacturers, universities & their commercialisation arms, venture capitalists & investors and a wide cross-section of public and private companies.

Tony was recognised in the peer assessed national review of the Best Lawyers in Australia (2013) in five categories:

Tony's practice covers these legal areas and the related industries. 

Tony is the Deputy Chair for Australia and the Queensland Chairman of the Intellectual Property Committee of the Law Council of Australia. He is also a member of various professional organisations, including the American Bar Association, American Intellectual Property Law Association, the International Bar Association, Licensing Executives Society International, IPSANZ and the International Franchise Association, and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

He also holds a Reserve Force Decoration awarded by the Australian Government, for his 20 years of service for the RAAF (Specialist Reserve – Legal).
