Dr. Niklas J.R.M. Schmidt, TEP

Niklas J.R.M. Schmidt heads the firm-wide Tax team. He is admitted as both a lawyer and as a tax adviser. Before joining the firm, Niklas worked for several years at a “Big Four” accounting firm and as a research assistant in the tax law department at the University of Vienna. His publications include various books and articles in international tax journals.

Niklas is frequently engaged as a speaker at tax conferences and has been a visiting lecturer at various universities. Currently, he is a member of the examination commission for the “Certified Financial Planner” exam in Austria, and he sits on the editorial board of the “SteuerExpress” magazine. Furthermore, Niklas is a member of the International Fiscal Association, the International Bar Association, the International Tax Planning Association, the International Academy of Estate and Trust Lawyers and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. He is furthermore the chair of the IBA’s Private Client Tax Committee. Niklas also published a book on cryptocurrencies and blockchains and regularly lectures on this topic.
