Jonathan Cahn

Mr Cahn is a partner with Baker & McKenzie, specializing in energy and project finance. He received his JD from Harvard Law School in 1984, and his BA from Harvard College in 1981. Mr Cahn works extensively on international transactions, including energy-related and project finance matters in Cental Asia, Russia, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, China and other countries of Asia. He has advised oil companies and governments with respect to public and private company acquisitions, negotiating exploration and production agreements, including onshore and offshore PSAs, farm-ins, share and participating interest options, joint ventures and operations. Furthermore, his energy-related work also extends to advising on the financing of downstream and transportation infrastructure, such as refineries and pipelines, and power generation as well as the structured finance of oil exports, and supply arrangements, including through off-set and countertrade. Mr Cahn has also frequently advised governments and private companies on the dimensions of corporate social responsibility in the energy sector, and has been an adviser to governments on law reform and privatization, for instance, assisting in the drafting of Kazakhstan's Law on Petroleum, Law on Foreign Investments, and its Law on External Debt, and acting as lead counsel in the privatization of oil and gas enterprises in Kazakhstan.
