Ji Pyoung Kim

Ji Pyoung Kim is an attorney at Kim & Chang’s Mergers & Acquisitions, Private Equity, Corporate Governance, Banking, Securities, Insolvency & Restructuring and Capital Markets Practices.

Mr Kim’s primary areas of focus include corporate governance, capital markets and M&A. He has advised numerous companies around the world - including industrial companies and financial institutions – in a wide variety of M&A transactions from transaction structuring to due diligence and definitive agreement negotiation.

He has also advised these companies on corporate governance, general corporate matters and capital market issues. Many of his clients include market leaders in their respective industries.

Furthermore, Mr Kim represents numerous private equity funds in fund formation matters, M&A transactions and restructuring issues of portfolio companies.

He is also active in the firm’s Insolvency & Restructuring Practice and has advised on M&A of companies under insolvency proceeding and purchase and sale of distressed securities.

As a member of the Banking Practice and the Securities Practice at the firm, Mr Kim advises a number of large publicly held banks and financial holding companies on their establishment, M&A, and financial regulatory matters, and also advises securities companies and investment banks. He has counselled financial supervisory authorities and securities companies from the early days of the adoption of the regulation for Special Purpose Acquisition Company and advises on the establishment, IPO and M&A transactions of a number of Special Purpose Acquisition Companies.

In addition to his experience practicing law in Korea, Mr Kim was a visiting attorney at Slaughter and May’s London office in 2013.

Mr Kim received his law degree from Seoul National University (LL.B. in 2002, LL.M. in 2006, and Ph.D. in 2011) and graduated from the Judicial Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court of Korea in 2004. He passed the AICPA exam in 2007. He also received his LL.M. from Harvard Law School in 2013 (Corporate Law and Governance Concentration). He is admitted to the Korea bar and the New York bar.
