Naomal Goonewardena

Mr. Goonewardena is a founder partner of the Firm. He received his professional legal education at the Sri Lanka Law College and was admitted as an Attorney at Law in 1986. He is widely recognized as the leading expert in tax law and corporate finance law in Sri Lanka. His multi-disciplinary qualifications and experience include being an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (ACA), an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, UK (ACMA), a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and holds a MBA.

Mr. Goonewardena commenced his career as a State Counsel in the Attorney General's Department. He then joined the private sector as a corporate lawyer at the DFCC Bank and thereafter as the Senior Tax Manager at M/s Ernst & Young, Chartered Accountants.

Mr. Goonewardena has been widely recognized for his multi-disciplinary strengths and been appointed to several prestigious positions in the public and private sector. He was a Legal Advisor to the Board of Review of the Inland Revenue Department of Sri Lanka from 1998 to 2002. He was also appointed by the Monetary Board of the Central Bank as a Director of one of Sri Lankan largest commercial banks to oversee its successful rehabilitation after the Asian financial meltdown in 1998. He currently serves as a Member of the Financial Systems Stability Committee of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and as a Member of the Taxation Committee of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.
