Robert received his Bachelor of Law degree at the University of Zambia and received a diploma in Trial Advocacy Skills from a National Institute of Trial Advocacy program at the University of Southern California in the U.S. Robert is a founding member and Board Chairman of the Legal Resources Foundation which is the only NGO providing free legal services to the indigent in human rights and human rights related cases. The Foundation has 70 full time staff members.
Simeza, Sangwa & Associates Advocates was founded by Robert Simeza and John Sangwa in 1994. In addition to the two named partners, there are six associates, making the firm one of the largest in Zambia.
The current practice mix is approximately 60% litigation (civil and criminal) and 40% Commercial/Corporate (including corporate and banking). While the firm represents some local corporations and some regional banks, most of the work in the commercial practice area of the firm is from clients based outside of the country. Zambia is a common law jurisdiction and many of the firm lawyers have trained in the U.K. or Australia before returning to Zambia. Robert heads the Commercial and Corporate practice areas.
The firm has been involved in many high profile cases including one in which they sought the removal of the Chief Justice of their highest court because he exceeded the age limit for the position as established by their Constitution.
