Afoke Igwe

A ten year veteran of the firm’s Corporate and Commercial Practice, Afoke has extensive experience in financing and restructuring transactions and is familiar with the documentational requirements for the implementation of financing arrangements. She has an extremely analytical mind and is an invaluable asset in structuring transactions. She advises on matters as varied as secured and unsecured facilities, structured finance, syndicated and bilateral loans, project finance, asset finance, acquisition finance, leasing, development finance, escrow arrangements, debt restructuring and debt to equity conversions. She also advises on the challenges posed by regulatory and policy changes in the Nigerian banking and finance sectors.

She has provided advice in a number of financing transactions involving operators in the Nigerian brewing and malting sub-sectors, banking, fast food industry, real estate, maritime, oil and gas and the telecommunications sectors. She is the head of the team that supervises due diligence reviews carried out on various Nigerian companies in connection with various financing transactions.

Mrs Igwe attended the University of Benin, Nigeria where she obtained Bachelor’s degree in law in 1999. Thereafter, she attended University of Wales, Cardiff where she obtained a Master’s degree in law in 2002. She was admitted to the Nigerian Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2003. She is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association.
