Thomas P Valenti is a Chicago-based attorney with more than 45 years’ legal experience and a distinguished career in ADR. Practising law since 1977, Mr Valenti has focused on arbitration since 1990 and mediation since 2000, developing a robust practice in civil litigation, personal injury, property damage and commercial disputes.
He is certified as a mediator and arbitrator for several prominent institutions, including the Circuit Court of Cook County, the American Arbitration Association (AAA), the National Arbitration Forum and the CPR Panel of Distinguished Neutrals. He also serves on panels for FINRA, USCIB, CAM-CCBC (Brazil) and others, and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb).
Mr Valenti brings a strong international perspective to his work, having trained and taught mediation, arbitration and negotiation in the UK, Europe, Dubai and India. He is particularly committed to exploring cross-cultural dimensions of dispute resolution, and facilitates dialogues on multicultural and international legal issues.
He is an adjunct instructor at Northwestern University’s School of Professional Studies, where he teaches mediation and imparts practical ADR skills to emerging professionals. His credentials further include training in Title IX, international family mediation, Hague Convention child abduction cases and conflict transformation. In addition, he has been trained in human rights and anti-trafficking by the US Institute of Diplomacy & Human Rights, reflecting his broader humanitarian interests and contributions.
Mr Valenti is actively involved in numerous professional organisations. He is a member of the American Bar Association (ABA), including its Sections on International Law and Dispute Resolution, as well as the Illinois State Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association and the International Bar Association’s Mediation Committee.
He continues to be a respected figure in the ADR field – advancing best practices both domestically and internationally through his commitment to legal excellence and effective conflict resolution.
