Dr Rasmus H Wandall, PhD

Rasmus H Wandall, barrister (L) PhD, possesses extensive experience in criminal law case matters, both domestically and internationally, as well as being active as a court-appointed mediator who is highly established in the realm of dispute resolution. In addition to founding Wandall Law Firm, he is a board member of the non-governmental organisation Human Rights in Action and the author of several academic books, articles and EC research reports on civil rights and transnational criminal procedure.

Today, Dr Wandall is known for his expertise in criminal law, sentencing and human rights, having advised on numerous significant cases locally and overseas. He routinely represents both individuals and companies from Denmark, Europe and other key locations, spanning various continents. Meanwhile, in his role as court-appointed mediator, he is highly regarded for blending a principled approach with a hands-on, practical and strategic attitude to arriving at apt solutions. Harnessing the comprehensive resources of Wandall Law Firm, he is notably proficient at handling cases that cover the full spectrum of criminal and administrative law matters.

Dr Wandall has previously served as General Counsel of the International Association of Prosecutors in The Hague, as Chief Adviser to the Director of Public Prosecutions of Denmark – and as an expert adviser to both the European Commission and European Parliament on criminal law and civil rights in the EU and globally. He has lived and worked in the US and England, as well as on the African continent (in Ethiopia) for almost ten years, though he has been based in Copenhagen, Denmark, since 2020. With an accumulated professional experience across more than 30 countries – throughout Europe, Asia, Africa and North America – he has collaborated with privates, ministries, universities and international organisations on diverse topics related to transnational criminal law, sentencing, criminal procedure, transnational cooperation, Interpol and civil rights.

In essence, Dr Wandall brings a uniquely global reach to his work, allowing him to assist clients via investigations and proceedings, combining legal precision and a nuanced understanding of the human, cultural and institutional frameworks that, in real-world application, factor into how cases and disputes are conducted and resolved.

He has been appointed as an expert to the EuroMed Justice IV project, as well as taking the lead in studies for the EP Libe committee on Human Rights’ challenges to arrest orders, further advising the European Commission on challenges to Interpol Red Notices and diffusion orders.

Last, but not least, Dr Wandall has held academic positions at NYU Law School, UC Berkeley, the University of Oxford, Addis Ababa University, the University of Copenhagen and the University of Bergen. He currently serves as a Research Fellow at Lund University, where his scholarly work in criminal justice and civil rights is widely acclaimed, and continues to inform his professional practice.
